Video: Octopus (and a curious garibaldi)
Uncorrected, fresh from the Canon HF20 oven. There will be lots of pretty stuff to come post-edit, but I wanted to get this shot up as soon as I could. It was a lucky bit of peripheral vision that found this octopus out in the open.

Amazing! It took me 10 seconds to spot it!

Very, very cool. I’ve had just experience with underwater photo- and videography to fill me up with questions. How deep were you? Did you have a filter on the housing? Lights? What do you plan to do in post? :)

That was about 40 feet, probably. There was no filter on the housing, but the HF20 has an “Underwater Mode” that either strips out some blues or adds in some reds to compensate for the red-eating effects of water. No extra lighting, either, but that’s partially why the colors are so bland. I’ll try bumping them up and see if I can at least replicate the effects I would have gotten with lights in post.
